Hi! I am Maria Nazareno and
this is my family. That's me
at the very left followed by
my 3 year old son, Avery
Christian, then my husband
of 5 years, Allan, and my
best friend, Rolly. I have
been teaching since 1993,
the year I came to Guam. I
first taught at Santa Barbara
School in Dededo. In 1998, I transferred to F. B. Leon Guerrero Middle School in
Yigo. This school year (2000-2001), I will be teaching fourth grade Math and
Science at St. Johns School in Upper Tumon.

I graduated in 1987 from the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines) with a
degree in Business Management. Last May 29, 2000, I graduated from the University
of Guam with a Masters in Counseling degree. At present, I am working toward my
elementary school certification.

I have been through several careers before I "gave in" to my first love which was
teaching. I was a newpaper editor in the Philippines' premier business newspaper,
BusinessWorld. I also was a Public Relations manager for Malayan Insurance Co.
(Philippines). When the opportunity to teach came, I grabbed it with both hands. It
has been 7 wonderful years and I have not regretted even a second!

I love to teach. I believe that every child can be taught, it is just a matter of trying
different out ways of reaching him/her. I see each child as my own and treat
him/her with the same respect and care that I give my own child. What are my
rewards? The smile of accomplishment. The twinkle of understanding. The telephone
call of a former student sharing his/her successes. Just knowing that in some way, I
did not only educate a child, but touched his/her life.
